If you’re in a crash:

We’ll cover the cost to get your car back to the condition it was in beforehand.

If the wild weather gets you:

We’ll cover your car for flood or storm damage.

If your car is stolen:

We’ll cover your car for theft or illegal conversion.

If you can’t drive your car after an accident:

We’ll get it to a repairer or safe place, as well as getting you and your passengers home.

If you’ve lost your keys for good this time:

You’ll pay no excess if it costs less than $300 to replace the locks.

If your glass is damaged:

We’ll cover you for windscreens, windows and sunroofs. With the option to add excess free glass cover for a small extra cost.

Can I change my excess?

Yes, you can adjust your policy excess where this option is available.

Please note, however, that most car policies have fixed excesses. To find out whether your excess can be adjusted, please email us.

How can I pay my premiums?

You can pay your premiums online, as a bill payment by phone or internet, by credit card over the phone, by direct debit or in person at your nearest New Zealand Post. View full answer

If I have car insurance with State, am I covered for windscreen damage?

Cover for windscreen damage can be added to all car policies, including, comprehensive, third party, fire and theft and third party only policies. When you add the windscreen extension cover to your policy, you can claim for any accidental damage to your windscreen, windows, sunroof, and driving lights without having to pay an excess.

How do I make a claim?

If you need to make a claim on your personal motor vehicle, home or contents policies, you can do this online. For all other policy types, please call us on 0800 80 24 24.

Do I have to list everyone who drives my vehicle on my insurance policy?

If you have State Full Cover car insurance, anyone can drive your vehicle as long as they have your permission and meet the policy’s terms and conditions.

However, we recommend listing all regular drivers and drivers under 25 years old so we know who they are and can give them the most appropriate excess. If they need to claim, an unnamed driver under 25 will pay a higher excess than if they are named.
