We’re switching to email

December 2024

We’re switching to sending your insurance documents by email to ensure we can get important information to you faster, and to make our business more environmentally friendly.

Benefits of digital documents

  1. Easier to access
Access your digital documents anytime, anywhere on the State app.
  2. Eco-friendly
Help us cut down on paper. Being paperless will cut back on waste and give Mother Nature a helping hand.
  3. Security
Security is our top priority. Learn how we keep your information secure at Terms Of Use and Privacy Policy | State Insurance.

What if I don’t want to receive my documents by email?

No worries. If you want to keep getting your documents by post, fill out the online form.

What if I like to have paper copies of my documents?

If you’d like a physical copy of your documents, you can choose to download and print the documents we send to you by email. You’ll still help cut back paper, by not using envelopes.

You can also return to getting your documents sent by post by changing your preferences in the State app or giving us a call on 0800 69 44 45.

Can I view my digital documents on my phone or tablet?

Yes. Your digital documents are formatted so they’ll open on different devices, including smartphones and tablets.

Can I manage my digital documents in the State app?

Yes. It’s super easy with the app. You can access your digital documents to take care of insurance-y stuff from your phone or tablet. Learn more or download the State app.

How will I be sent updates if I choose email?

If you choose to get your documents by email, you’ll also get email notifications.

What happens if I accidentally delete a digital document?

You can ask to have your policy documents emailed to you again. Give us a call on 0800 69 44 45. It’s no problem.

If you’re registered, you can also access your digital documents through the State app or by going to our website and logging in to My State, your online account.

How do I know this isn’t a scam? The 0800 number on your email is not the normal State number.

We understand why you’d be cautious. The 0800 number in the email is a dedicated line just for this communication. It’s verified and secure. If you’re ever unsure, you can always give our main customer service number a call to confirm.

The email and webform show a customer number. I've never seen this before.

On your policy documents, you'd usually just see your policy number. With this system change, we're using a customer number to identify you and make these changes more efficiently.

How do I make sure I receive my documents?

It’s easy to make sure emails don’t go into your spam or junk folder by adding documents@info.state.co.nz to your safe sender list or adjusting your filters.

If you have questions or need support, call us on 0800 69 44 45. We’re happy to help.
